THE BEST RED LIPS FROM THE SAG RED CARPET
At last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards we saw a resurgence of the red lip—which is a refreshing change after all the 'no makeup, makeup' we've been surrounded by lately. Emma Stone paired a bright cherry hue with her unique Christian Dior Haute Couture ensemble, Rosamund Pike (also in Dior) chose a shade with a hint of orange, while Maggie Gyllenhaal and Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael complemented their white gowns with classic crimsons. Click through for proof that a bold red lip always works on the red carpet.
The Boardwalk Empire star sexed up a subtle look with a deep red lip.
Before the award show Lupita Nyong'o Instagrammed a photo of three Lancôme red lipsticks with the caption "RED RED, WHICH RED?" She ended up going with L'Absolu Rouge Lipcolor in Caprice and her makeup artist, Nick Barose, offered up some advice about how to pick out the right red.
To complement the modern flare of the Gone Girl star's asymmetrical Christian Dior Haute Couture dress, makeup artist Melanie Inglessis went with an extra poppy lip. She first lined the lips with MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Lip Waterproof Lip Liner Pencil #25C Orange Red, then waited a few minutes and applied Chanel Limited Edition Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Pétillante.
While most of the red lipstick-donning stars chose to wear black or white, Rebecca Gayheart shows us that blue works well with a bold lip, too.

Maggie Gyllenhaal's short pixie and minimal eye makeup let her deep red lipstick with blue undertones do the talking.
Makeup artist Tracey Levy used Kevyn Aucoin's The Matte Lip Color in Eternal to give the Parks and Recreation star gorgeous, full red lips.
"For Laura tonight the focus is on the lip. We wanted to create a light and airy look with an edge," said Avon global celebrity makeup artist Lauren Andersen, who used Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Poppy Love on the Downton Abbey star.
